The Team

Al MacInnes

Al and his wife Rachel have been part of Hope Community Church since it began. They both grew up in East Anglia and after studying in Bristol and Nottingham, Al enjoyed teaching Science and RE at a secondary school in the midlands. A five year spell working with students (through UCCF) in the South West followed, before church ministry in Cambridge at Rock Baptist Church. Al did his undergraduate theology at Oak Hill College and has subsequently received a MTh from Union School of Theology. In his spare time Al enjoys spending time with his family (Rachel & daughters Charis & Lois), culture in (almost) all its forms, following sport and occasionally playing it…
Martin Brooke
Assistant Pastor

Martin and Josette Brooke began following Jesus in their mid-40s after their daughter became a Christian while at sixth form college. Sensing a call to ministry and with a passion to share the good news about Jesus with everyone, Martin attended the PTCornhill and Cornhill Plus Bible training courses before joining the staff of St Andrew the Great church in Cambridge as parish outreach worker. In 2015, Martin and Josette moved to Hope Community Church where he now works part-time alongside his self-employment as a public relations consultant. Martin is a lifelong Cambridge United fan, loves walking his two dogs as well as playing tennis and golf.
Tony Sharpe

Tony gave his heart to the Lord Jesus when 17. When he got married, together with his family, they supported a small Baptist Church in Teversham. Tony was one of the founding Elders of Hope in 2007. Working as an engineering executive with a multinational company he travelled the world widely. Tony enjoys presenting people with the word of God through the Gideon charity and cross country walking.
Dave Walker

Dave grew up in a Christian home and his faith was cemented during his time at University. He works as a freelance music producer, predominantly composing for film and TV. He has a passion for seeing how faith and the Bible connects with culture and the creative industries. Dave also enjoys any kind of American BBQ food, playing sport and endures supporting Arsenal.
Liz Taylor

Liz is a pastoral worker and co-leads a homegroup at Hope. She loves to see God at work in people’s lives and to encourage them to persevere. Liz also enjoys walking in hills, cats and chocolate.
Emily Walker
Children's Coordinator

Moving between North Wales, Tanzania and Hertfordshire Emily grew up in a Christian home. She became a Christian at 15 but it was during her time studying English Literature and training to be a teacher where her faith in Jesus grew. She is married to Dave and they have two children, Fin and Hattie. Emily loves eating out, charity shops and decluttering!
James Gatward

James has been part of Hope from when he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Saviour and was baptised in September 2009. He is married to Pam and blessed to have a son, Zachary. A typical week involves studying, childcare duties, work and catching up on the F1 with his son.
Sarah Davies

Sarah is the church administrator and serves in various ministries in the church. Sarah is married to Laurence and they have two boys, Daniel and Matthew. Sarah enjoys crafts, walks in the countryside and visiting art galleries.
Rachel MacInnes
Safeguarding Leader

Rachel came to know Jesus through her parents’ church in Bury St Edmunds. She has always loved travelling and been involved in world mission since her student days. Moving back to East Anglia in 2004 may not have been in her original life-plan, but being at Hope from day one has taken her on a faith journey that she would not have missed for the world!
